Resources: Companies and People We Recommend

Companies and People We Recommend

It can be a wild world out there.  To help our clients, we’ve put together a short list of other wedding and event vendors who we’ve worked with and know (and love)*:

Event Production and Staffing:

Shiraz Events: For full-service event production, whether for an elegant wedding or a multi-day corporate event, Shiraz never disappoints.   Every detail is meticulously designed, and the producers ensure that the event goes off smoothly and without any hitches.

Florist:

Rachel Cho Floral Design: Year after year, Rachel has been named one of the top florists in the city, and she has an amazing team working with her.  Her corporate clients range from the MoMA, to the Dr. Oz Show to Macy’s, but she shines just as brightly when designing flowers for weddings & events.  I recommend Rachel because her flowers make my photos look better.  And if you want a real treat, go visit her studio in the West Village — it smells and looks divine.

Wedding Cakes:

Madison Lee’s Cakes: Madison is amazing; she’s a true cake artist.  In 2015 she was named one of the “Top Ten Cake Artists in North America” by Dessert Professional Magazine.  Her cakes are delicious and beautiful.  Just know that I will insist on eating a slice of cake if I photograph an event with a cake baked by Madison Lee.  Madison originally learned her craft at her father’s well-known Park Slope bakery Cousin John’s Cafe.  But her flagship location is in Manhattan’s Garment District on West 37th Street.

Wedding Rings & Custom Jewelry:

David Sachs (D. Sachs & Co): If you’re looking for wedding bands or other custom jewelry for the wedding, you can do no better than David Sachs.  David is a diamond wholesaler (so you know you’ll get a great price on any stones), and he’s a custom jewelry designer.  His work is beautiful and reasonably priced.  And, best of all, I know David to be trustworthy and honest.  He works by personal referral only, so if you want an introduction, just ask me.

Wedding Officiant:

Rev. Susanna Stefanachi Macomb: Rev. Macomb literally wrote the book on interfaith wedding ceremonies (Joining Hands and Hearts: Interfaith, Intercultural Wedding Celebrations: A Practical Guide for Couples).  But even if your wedding isn’t interfaith or intercultural, Rev. Macomb will ensure that your wedding ceremony is the most beautiful, touching and romantic part of your day.  I’ve photographed many weddings and vow renewals officiated by Rev. Macomb, and — truth be told — she can make a grown man (me) cry.

Makeup Artists:

All the makeup artists who I work with in my photography studio are talented at both editorial/fashion makeup and also natural beauty makeup.  They are as comfortable with models and celebrities as they are with regular people like me.  I trust them to make all of my subjects look their very best.

Stylist and Personal Shopper:

Samantha Brown:  Want advice for buying your wedding dress or the dresses for your bridesmaids?  Or perhaps the groom and groomsmen want a little spiffying up?  Samantha can help determine the best color palettes, fabrics and fit for your special day.  From sourcing the dresses, setting up appointments and fittings and even being there to zip you up on your wedding day, Samantha can guide you through the process.  Samantha can also provide wardrobe services for engagement shoots and parties, showers, bachelorette parties, and honeymoon packing.

Branded Merchandise (and Other Tchotchkes):

If you’re looking to have custom branded items at your special event (anything from napkins & cups to throw pillows to apparel to gift bags to golf balls, all printed with with your name or initials or your wedding or mitzvah logo), look no further than Susan Burke or Chaye Zuckerman Shapot.  Both will work with you to make sure you get the best products at the best prices.

Nutrition, Losing Weight and Getting in Shape:

Many of my brides and grooms have mentioned to me that they want to get in shape or possibly even lose a few pounds before their big day.  Well I’m happy to recommend two people who can help with those goals.

  • Personal trainer Evelyn Hatzigeorgiou (Transformation Studios).  Evelyn believes in “High Intensity Strength Training,” which she says allows her clients to complete a week’s worth of strength training in just 20 minutes.  I’ve worked out with her, and she doesn’t make you sweaty, but she does make you sore.
  • Clinical Nutritionist Carly Feigan (Head to Health).  Carly promises that her weight loss program helps people look younger, more energetic and more fit.  And no calorie counting required.

Silent Auction Items:

Mike Polsky (Polsky Sports & Entertainment).  If you’re organizing a charity fundraiser, Mike Polsky can fill your silent auction table (or even a live auction) with some of the coolest memorabilia from the sports and entertainment worlds.  And there’s no financial risk for your charity.  I always enjoy photographing events where Mike has provided the auction items, because it’s easy to get photos of excited “shoppers.”

Event Insurance:

Arthur Chernick Company, Inc.: I assume your special event is going to go exactly as planned, with nary a hiccup. But it’s a big investment, and strange things happen. (Remember Superstorm Sandy?) Insurance broker Chuck Chernick and his team at Arthur Chernick Co. can ensure that your event is covered with event cancellation and event liability insurance.
